The Holy Cross membership is pleased to share with you details about its church and ministry, which, through its people and pastor, is dedicated to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The entire life of Holy Cross Church is centered around God’s Word and Holy Sacraments—His means of sharing with us His love and forgiveness. It is, therefore, with a sincere desire of sharing with you the treasures of Jesus Christ that we invite you to worship and fellowship with us at Holy Cross. For the Cross to us is certain salvation! Our Mission:
The mission of Holy Cross congregation is to carry out the Great Commission of our Lord (Matthew 28:18-20). We will share the love and forgiveness of Our Lord Jesus Christ with one another, our community and the whole world so that we can take part in the joyous privilege of "making disciples of all nations" through the power of preaching and teaching the Word of God, administering His Sacraments, and joining in service fellowship according to the confessional standard of the Lutheran Church.
Our Beliefs:
The Faith of the Christian Church, as believed and practiced down through the centuries, is our Faith. It is expressed in the historic Creeds (or, Statements of Belief) – the Apostles’, the Nicene, and the Athanasian. We are a congregation of folk who are first and foremost sinful. Each Sunday we admit such to God and before one another when we say: “We have sinned against You (God) in thought, word and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone.” But we are also forgiven people—not because of what we have done, but because of what God has done for us in Jesus Christ. By Jesus’ death on the cross we are forgiven; by Jesus’ resurrection from the dead we are raised to new life now and forever. We are reconciled to God, and we are at peace with Him. This is what God has done; this is what we believe.
Fellowship & Service:
Holy Scripture exhorts us as Christians to meet together, encourage one another, and build one another up in the Faith. In response to God’s Word, we offer a multitude of groups and events (both spiritual and recreational in nature) that seek to bring people together. As people who recognize that we have been served by Christ, we also seek to serve others. Both within the congregation and throughout the community, we involve ourselves in service, as God gives us the gifts, talents, resources and opportunities.
Our History:
The Holy Cross congregation first worshipped in 1957 and from its origin has been a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LC-MS), a denomination dedicated to Christian education and missions. The LC-MS supports more than 2,000 elementary and 5,000 preschools, 60 high schools, 10 colleges and two seminaries. It is active in all 50 states and in more than 25 foreign countries. The LC-MS is home base for “The Lutheran Hour,” the world’s largest religious broadcast that reaches 30 million people each week.
The name "Lutheran" came into existence over 400 years ago, but the teachings which stand behind that name are as old as the Christian Church. It was the determination of Martin Luther and other 16th century reformers to rid the church of man-made doctrines that came into practice during the Middle Ages, and to make the Scriptures the source and guide for all teaching. The people who agreed with Luther were given the name "Lutheran," and this name continues to this day. We believe that the Reformation was not the beginning of something new, but a return to the teachings of Christ and the Apostles as revealed in the Bible and expressed in the ancient creeds.
