OUR FIRST ADVENT SOUP SUPPER AND ADVENT SERVICE are this Wednesday evening (Dec. 2). Please join us for soup at 6:15. The Discipleship Commission looks for YOUR help with the soup supper – pots of soup and finger desserts are needed. If you can bring one of these two items, please be sure to indicate this on the Soup Supper sign-up sheets. Thank you in advance for your help. The Holden Evening Prayer service at 7:30. Our Advent theme this year is, “Hark the Glad Sound.” This week we join with Zechariah in singing a melody of repentance as we prepare the way of the Lord, as Zechariah’s son did. Let the words, Scripture verses, hymns, litany and prayers of our worship experience serve as music to your soul as you hearken to the glad sound of Jesus’ birth.
CHRISTMAS POINSETTIA ORDERS: The florist that we use has set an earlier than usual deadline. If you plan to order a red or white poinsettia to decorate our altar area for the Christmas services,the order forms are in a basket on the narthex table. The deadline this year is Wednesday, Dec. 2.
FROM THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE: The Board of Directors has openings and is interested in talking to you. Here is an opportunity to participate in the management and decisions of our church life along with dedicated and inspiring leaders. ADVENT DEVOTION BOOKS are in a basket on the narthex table. There are a variety of booklets, including “Hark the Glad Sound” a booklet to go along with our midweek Advent series. Please take one to use during this season of preparation and anticipation.
HERE IS A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU to participate in a Sunday morning Worship service during Advent! People are needed to light the Advent candles and read a Bible passage. Sign up on the blue sheet on the narthex table.

COVENANT TO CARE FOR CHILDREN: Thank you, thank you to everyone who took an ornament tag from the “Giving Tree” last Sunday. Your excitement and generosity to purchase a Christmas gift for a child in need is heart-warming. Please remember that all gifts are due,unwrapped, by Wednesday, December 9. Gifts may be put in the boxes under the “Giving Tree” poster.
CHRISTIAN DISCUSSION GROUP: Come out and join us on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 10 a.m. in the Conference Room. We’ll be watching a DVD of Professor Stuart Burgess (Professor of Engineering Design who has taught at Cambridge University and the University of Bristol in the UK) speak on the topic of “Why Biblical Creation is Good Science.” After Dec. 2, the next meeting will be Dec. 9.
CHALLENGE GRANT: Orphan Grain Train, a recognized service organization of the LCMS, provides aid, food, clothing, medical supplies and equipment to those in need worldwide. A generous donor has offered a matching challenge of $100,000 for gifts nationwide, including $5,000 in gifts specifically from the LCMS New England District. Deadline for receipt is November 30; make checks payable to “Orphan Grain Train - New England” and send to NED-LCMS, 400 Wilbraham Rd, Springfield, MA 01109.
