Hello and Welcome - We are Glad You Found Us!
Our Sunday Worship Service times are 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
WORSHIP NOTICE FOR DECEMBER 24: We will NOT have an 8 a.m. service on Sunday, Dec. 24. At our 10:30 a.m. service we will observe the Fourth Sunday in Advent.
Our three Christmas Services are as follows: Christmas Eve at 6:00 p.m.--"Carol Festival;" Christmas Eve at 11:00 p.m.--"Candlelight Carol Service with Holy Communion;" and Christmas Day at 10:30 a.m.--"The Nativity of Our Lord, with Holy Communion."
Midweek Advent Worship--Holden Evening Prayer: Wednesdays, December 6, 13 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. Our theme this year is "Together in Advent." We will focus on a different activity each week for our Christmas season "to-do" list...but these activities will focus on giving and sharing instead of on materialism. Our Midweek Advent Worship is preceded by a soup supper in the Fellowship Hall at 6:15 p.m.
For the Week Starting 12/17
TAKE NOTE THAT NEXT SUNDAY, DEC. 24, we have just one service in the morning, at 10:30, at which we observe the Fourth Sunday in Advent. On Sunday evening, Dec. 24, we celebrate Christmas with services at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. The 6 p.m. service is a festival of carols, and the 11 p.m. service is our candlelight service with Holy Communion. Then, on Christmas morning we have our traditional worship service with Holy Communion at 10:30 a.m.
OUR THIRD OF THREE ADVENT SOUP SUPPERS / ADVENT SERVICES is this Wednesday evening, Dec. 20. Please join us for soup at 6:15. The Discipleship Commission looks for YOUR help with the soup supper – pots of soup and finger desserts are needed. If you can bring one of these two items, please indicate this on the Soup Supper sign-up sheets. Thank you in advance for your help. The Holden Evening Prayer service is at 7:30. Our Advent series this year is, “Together in Advent.” This week our theme is Wrap in Love. In this season of hustle and bustle, we move from wrapping presents to wrapping people in love, as Mary wrapped the Christ Child so lovingly in swaddling clothes.
THE 2018 WORSHIP SUPPLIES AND ALTAR FLOWER CHARTS are on the hallway bulletin board as you approach the Fellowship Hall. Whomever you would like to honor or remember will be included in our bulletin…it’s a nice way to honor or remember a loved one! Altar flowers for a week, or one of our worship supplies for a month, are available to fund and need your support. It’s always nice to celebrate someone’s birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion in this fashion.
DO YOU, OR DOES SOMEONE YOU KNOW, NEED A PRESCHOOL? Registration for the 2018-2019 school year at our very own Holy Cross Christian Preschool begins on January 16! Part-day and full-day programs are offered for Pre-K, 4s, and 3s. For details, or to schedule a visit, contact our Preschool Director, Michele Glennon: 203-268-6471 / email@example.com.
2018 OFFERING ENVELOPES are on the back narthex table. Do not use these new, pink-colored envelopes until 2018. A special, single envelope is included in your box to help offset the cost of supplying envelopes to the congregation (about $3 per box). Please consider contributing $3 in this envelope. If you find that you do not have envelopes and would like a set, please speak with Andrew Struzik or leave a note in the Financial Secretary mailbox, located outside the church office. Finally…please remember…EGiving can be an attractive option to weekly envelopes. If you have any questions on how to get started, please speak with Andrew.
HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR MAILBOX? If you have not looked in your family mailbox lately (in the narthex, just outside the sanctuary doors), we ask you to do so today. After the first of the year, we plan to clean out the boxes and may be discarding any notices that have been in there for the past few months.
YEAR-END CONTRIBUTIONS: In the course of year-end tax planning, you may find yourself considering special one-time donations. There is a growing trend among donors to make contributions to their favorite organizations during the final week of the year. As you contemplate year-end gifts, please keep the church in mind, and remember that to receive tax credit for 2017, any contributions MUST BE RECEIVED on or before Sunday, December 31.
CAN YOU SERVE AS A FELLOWSHIP HOST ON A SUNDAY MORNING? Pick a week that works with your schedule. We have openings for hosts in January.
ONGOING COLLECTION: Our Sunday School is collecting NEW hats and mittens/glove sets to be used to outfit children with Covenant to Care for Children—the children in our “adopted” DCF social worker’s caseload. Please put these donations in the designated collection box in the narthex. Even though we have enough sets to outfit the children in the current caseload, watch for sales as this winter outerwear will be given to our social worker on an as-needed basis.
