The Words of Life

Today's Bible reading: John 6:66-69

The coming of Jesus meant crisis.  Confrontation with Him meant that one could not avoid the question of who He was.  After He fed the crowd in the desert, some wanted to make Him an earthly king, a provider who would miraculously fill all the needs of His people – a meat-, wool-, –, electricity-board all in one person.  Some disciples thought Jesus was going too far in claiming to be the bread from heaven to fill man’s deepest hunger, the hunger of the soul.  They especially objected to His words about giving His flesh and blood to eat and to drink.  So they left Jesus.  Then there was Judas, the betrayer, a devil among the 12 disciples.

Peter, as often, expresses the truth for the rest who remain loyal to Jesus: where can one go but to Jesus to find the truth which leads to eternal life?

Prayer: O Lord Let me always say as Peter did, "You have the Word of eternal life."  Amen
