Today's Bible reading: Romans 8:1-17
This theme: “through suffering to glory,” is often repeated in the New Testament. Thus, Paul writes in our Epistle for this morning: We are “heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him.”
Many of Jesus disciples could not face such a challenge. Bearing the cross in the sense of surrendering one's own life to the Lord - and in the sense of even dying for Him - was too difficult. Others took offense at His teaching. But those first few followers who remained faithful were rewarded with a wonderful revelation of Christ’s heavenly glory when they saw the risen Lord.
Prayer: Gracious Lord, thank you for being willing to suffer and die that we might be forgiven. Lead us to speak your Word a right and give us the will and strength to take up the cross and follow you to life eternal; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
