Today's Bible reading: Genesis 3:14-19
The harmony that should have continued between humankind and the world of nature is broken. So Adam is told that making a living will now be a matter of wrestling against nature. It will mean sweat and hard work, since even the ground has become cursed because of his disobedience. For Eve - the mother of mankind - having children will not be possible without pain. So there is brokenness between humanity and the world.
Even more important is the barrier now created between God and his creatures. God calls out to Adam and Eve: “Where are you?” (Of course, He is God – He knows exactly where they are.) But what does Adam reply? “I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked and I hid myself.” Fallen man tries to hide from God's all seeing eye – he feels fear and shame. Adam and Eve know that they have to answer for what they have done. So sin brings with it not only regrets … but also guilt and judgment. Our parents must leave the beautiful garden and all its delights. From now on, every living moment will also be attended by the angel of death. So there is brokenness between us and God.
Prayer: Lord God heavenly Father, Creator of all things visible and invisible, You are the Author of all life. Write our names into Your story, into the Lamb’s book of life, that we may be delivered from sin, death and the power of the devil; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
GOD BLESS YOUR DAY!
