Hope for a Fallen World

Today's Bible reading: Genesis 6:7-9

God would have been quite justified in wiping out His creation.  Yet, in grace He spares one man who is righteous - that is, in the right relationship with God - through whom He will make a new beginning.  That person is Noah.

Noah is certainly a hero in the Bible.  He trusts in God, and obeys Him perfectly in building and stocking the ark so that God can preserve life.  Yet the stress in the story is not on Noah’s heroism, but on God's providential care.  Never again will God destroy what He has created – no matter how deeply humankind falls into sin.

Prayer: Lord, give to your people today the confidence in Your salvation that Noah demonstrated when he willingly placed himself and the welfare of his family in Your gracious care.  Amen.
