Today's Bible reading: Genesis 3:1-14
This disobedience to God's will means that relationships are broken … the results of which are many and widespread. First as individuals. Adam and Eve feel shame for the first time. They have lost their freedom as God's good creatures. From now on they will suffer from a bad conscience. So there is brokenness within the self.
Their relationship with each other is spoiled. Note how Adam begins to blame Eve for the whole sorry mess – (or is he really blaming God?) The story of Cain and Abel in Genesis chapter 4 further illustrates how human society is disrupted by sin. Jealousy leads to the sin of murder. Sin and its consequences have universal dimensions – and it spreads like a disease. So there is brokenness between relationships.
Prayer: Lord God heavenly Father, Creator of all things visible and invisible, You are the Author of all life. Write our names into Your story, into the Lamb’s book of life, that we may be delivered from sin, death and the power of the devil; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
