Today's Bible reading: Leviticus 8
It’s difficult for us today to imagine living in a country with only one church. There were, of course, local shrines that the Israelites could go to. There was, in particular, always the temptation to go to the pagan high places where the worship of Baal was carried out. But Israel had only one temple … and it was the special duty of the high priests, priests, and Levites to administer and supervise everything that went on in the temple. Though born into this high office, they still had to be consecrated for their holy tasks.
We shouldn’t imagine that God’s people in ancient times regularly streamed to the temple. Many lived so far away, that only an occasional visit for a high festival could be made to Jerusalem. So, it was the task of the priest to carry on regular worship of God for all the people.
Prayer: "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit." Amen.
GOD BLESS YOUR DAY!
