Today's Bible reading: Genesis 32:22-32
It is in this context - of God not denying His own goodness - that we need to understand Jacob’s experience there by the Jabbok River. Jacob wrestles with a stranger on the river bank. The strong man who has long been fighting God - not just people - wins the victory. Or does he? We can put it this way: by being defeated in the end, he wins God's blessing! And - like other great men of the Old Testament - he is marked as a key person in God's plan by receiving a new name: Israel – which literally means “he who wrestles with God.”
Prayer: Lord, in Baptism, You have promised to be my God. Grant to me what you see that I need. Amen.
GOD BLESS YOUR DAY!
