"Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him. See that you go on growing in the Lord, and become strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with joy and thanksgiving for all he has done."

Colossians 2:7 (LB)

Christian Education

Holy Cross emphasizes instruction in Christian truths for all ages, believing it to be a life-long process. We therefore offer a full range of learning opportunities.  The following programs are available at Holy Cross:

Sunday School

Our church offers a wonderful, free, Christian Education hour weekly for children from age 3 through high school.  A different Bible story is explored each week, using traditional scripture and integration with real-life connection. The children participate in numerous group productions such as our Christmas and Palm Sunday programs. At the end of the school year in May, the Sunday School classes will showcase an end-of-school-year display showing what what they have learned.  The children also enjoy taking part in other activities such as the “Operation Christmas Child” program, where shoeboxes are filled with toys and essentials, then distributed to needy children all over the world.

The school year begins on Sunday, September 9.  The children meet from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. every Sunday except during the Christmas break and Easter Sunday. Church membership is NOT a requirement, and friends are always welcome!  The 2018-2019 school year registration forms are available on the narthex table at the church.  If it's more convenient for you to print out a form at home,  click here to open and print the form.

Vacation Bible School

The children weren’t shipwrecked on an island, but did learn how Jesus rescues them

From August 6-10, 2018, Holy Cross hosted a Shipwrecked adventure, with a staff of 37 leading 24 children in five daily Bible-story themes with different activities.  The children rotated through five fantastic stations which helped them to discover they are always “Rescued by Jesus!”

Each day, students came together for an opening where we collected the mission offering, heard the daily story and prayed.  On Monday, we learned that when you’re lonely, Jesus rescues – Luke 15 taught us parables about lost things.  On Tuesday, we learned that when you worry, Jesus rescues – Luke 10 taught us about Martha, who worried and complained.  On Wednesday, we learned that when you struggle, Jesus rescues – Luke 22 taught us how Jesus’ friends tried to rescue him in the garden of Gethsemane.  On Thursday, we learned that when you do wrong, Jesus rescues – Luke 23 showed us how Jesus welcomed a criminal before dying and coming back to life. Lastly, on Friday, we learned that when you’re powerless, Jesus rescues – Acts 3 showed us how Peter and John healed a lame man in Jesus’ name.

After the opening, the students broke into age groups to rotate through our five stations: Crafts, Bible Study-Science, Music, Snack Break, and Outdoor play.  In crafts, they made exciting projects such as treasure boxes and wooden picture frames, to name a few.  In the Bible Study-Science Station, students did many activities that reflected the daily theme as well as working in their Bible Study Cast-A-Way log book.  In music, the students practiced many songs for our closing program, which were accompanied by sign language.  In the snack break station, students watched video clips and talked about ways they could showcase each day’s theme in their daily lives.  Finally, in outdoor play, students expended their energy via organized games and parachute play.  The kids enjoyed a fantastic-five-station-switch every day!

Following the stations each day, students returned to the sanctuary for the closing.  Here they reviewed the daily Bible verse, saw how the mission offerings grew and prayed together.  The greatest part of the closing was when the mission chart was revealed!  At our 2018 VBS, the students collected money to purchase seeds for families in drought conditions, and raised more than $250.00 toward this worthy cause!  A beautiful closing program of student songs and daily recaps closed out a lovely week.  And of course our favorite tradition…the ice cream truck brought smiles to everyone’s face!

This week truly was a blessing as we journeyed through VBS and discovered how God is always there for us! We already look forward to VBS 2019…watch for information in Spring 2019!

Youth Activities

The Holy Cross Youth group is a group of teens (grades 7 through 12) who gather several times each year.  These gatherings promote social and community outreach activities.  All are welcome to attend.

The Holy Cross library has books for both young and old and is a great opportunity to read literature that is meaningful. Getting into the habit of allowing your young one to select a “Bible story for the week” will help both your child and you to grow in Christ together. So stop by and borrow a book today.
